The Class T 478.1 was a diesel-electric universal locomotive of the CSD. From 1966 to 1971, a total of 230 locomotives of the T 478.1 series were delivered. In 1969 and 1970, a total of 82 locomotives with the designation T 478.2 were also delivered as a freight train variant. With the exception of the missing boiler, these machines corresponded to the T 478.1 series.
