A total of 257 engines of the universal electric locomotive class 1042 were built from 1963 onwards. From 1966 onwards, more powerful engines were installed to reach a top speed of 150 km/h. These locomotives were given the class designation 1042.5. By installing a resistance brake, they were given characteristic roof structures and inverted single-spar pantographs compared to the previously delivered locomotives. They were used in front of all types of trains, but mostly in front of fast passenger and freight trains, including cross-border trains to Germany.
The assembly of the 1042.687 was carried out by Simmering-Graz-Pauker in Graz under the factory number 72815, while ELIN was in charge of the electrical part. After delivery in January 1977, it was based in Vienna-South.
Note: The model is new, which is created by overprinting some details such as the company number or frame addresses. The specific details are correctly adopted depending on the prototype. The models are offered at an attractive MSRP, as overprints can be visible to a certain extent.
